Our Story

When we announced that we were entering the cremation urn industry, it raised some eyebrows and a few questions. It’s not an easy topic to discuss as it’s close to our heart but here is a short insight into how it all started….

Our story started in 2016 when our son and brother, Jean-Claude,  was diagnosed with Ewings Sarcoma. It’s a rare but vicious cancer that occurs in the bones and soft tissue around the bones.

After a 2 year battle, Jean-Claude passed away at home on June 16th, 2019, surrounded by his family.

His final wish was to be cremated which we honoured but his passing was tragic and we were just not ready to let go. We were battling to face the reality of losing such an important part of our family.

It was a deeply personal decision to keep our sons ashes at home which left us with the challenge of finding a cremation urn. We didn’t want an ordinary wooden box or plain looking vase with a lid…and so the search started !

This was no easy task as the cremation urns available in South Africa were mostly quite basic so we turned to Google for help. Eventually we found a beautiful urn overseas which led to another set of challenges of getting it here as the manufacturer did not export to our country.  The other big questions was “How do we get it here safely without going missing or getting damaged in transit?”

We were determined to get the urn to South Africa so we could lay our son and brother to rest.

After months of relying on friends and family overseas, we eventually received the urn. Only then did the grieving process start, knowing that although our son’s battle was over , a part of him remained with us and he would have absolutely loved the urn which we had chosen.

DivGlo Cremation Urns was founded on the basis of our struggle to source a decent urn and our wish to assist other South Africans from going through the same difficult process.

DivGlo Cremations Urns was estalished in 2022 and is run by Mike and Angie Lowmass, father and sister of Jean-Claude.

It’s taken a while to get our designs and offerings right as we want to offer families in South Africa who opt to cremate their loved ones, a decent and affordable choice of quality cremation urns that they can keep the ashes in at home.

Whether the urn is on display on a mantle piece, or whether kept in private, the final resting place of your loved one should always give you peace of mind, allow you to grieve and to be close to them in spirit.

We hope that the range of urns that we offer will provide solace in a time of need.
